CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CHILD ABUSE HAS TO COME TO AN END.

Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

Medical tests confirm nun lost virginity

Oct. 14: Medical tests conducted on a nun who alleged that the sacked principal of St. Joseph’s College, Father Rajarathinam, repeatedly raped her have confirmed that she has lost her virginity. However the tests did not show whether or not she had an abortion as she claimed. The nun lodged a complaint with the all-women police station at Tiruchy Fort on October 12 in which she alleged that she was repeatedly raped by the principal of St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchy.
Despite her complaint to the chairman of the Governing Bodies of Jesuit colleges in Tamil Nadu, no action had been taken against Father Rajarathinam, she told the police. The nun claimed that Rajarathinam had raped her in 2006 after offering her a cool drink laced with sedatives. After the incident, he threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed what had happened to anyone, she said.
Emboldened by the fact that she appeared to be intimidated by his threats and did not complain, he began to take her to other places and continued to sexually exploit her, the nun said. She also claimed that she conceived twice and was forced to have abortions. Based on her complaint, the police registered a case under sections 376 (rape) and 506 part 1 (intimidation) of the IPC.
Rajarathinam has moved the Madurai bench of the Madras high court seeking anticipatory bail. The plea will come up for hearing on October 18.
