CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CHILD ABUSE HAS TO COME TO AN END.

Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

Tribal lovers done to death by kin, Times Of India

Tribal lovers done to death by kin, Times Of India

NALGONDA: Even before the memory of burning alive of two old persons on charges of sorcery in Chotuppal mandal in Nalgonda district faded, another gruesome incident has come to light in the district.

Two lovers were tied to a pole, thrashed and throttled to death by the relatives of the girl on the intervening night of September 27-28.

The reason: the girl, a married woman, eloped with her babai (uncle) __ thus an incestuous relation in their eyes. Later, their bodies were thrown into the waters of the Garikaneti Vagu. Both hailed from Nayakuni Thanda, a small hamlet close to Gattumeedi village, in Peddavura mandal.

The body of the Lambada (ST) girl, M Bujji, 20, was recovered on Wednesday from Rajavaram Vagu in Chityal village in Damaracharla mandal, about 50 km away from the murder site.

Efforts are on to trace the body of her lover Harja, 23, who also belonged to the scheduled tribe.

Unhappy with her growing proximity to Harja, who worked in a private firm near Hyderabad, Bujjis father got her married to Ravi of Ambapur village six months ago. However, the duo continued their relationship. She had gone missing for some days, and her parents and relatives came to know that she had eloped with Harja. Harja silenced Ravi by handing over Rs 40,000 three months ago to be with Bujji.

However, both were warned by the girls parents as it amounted to an incestuous relationship since the parents of both the girl and the boy were cousins. Sources said Harja even paid Rs 40,000 to Bujjis parents after the village panchayat imposed a fine of Rs 80,000 on Harja for pestering the girl, and warned him against continuing the relationship.

In a bid to wean their daughter away from Harja, Bujjis farm labourer parentsShankar and Lakshmishifted to Sandennapally village close to Nalgonda town.

But Harja returned to be with his lover at Sandennapally on September 27.

Enraged, Shankar and his three brothers called the couple on the pretext of discussing some issues with the village panchayat. Then, they severely beat up the couple mercilessly, killing them on the spot. Later, their bodies were flung into the stream.

The girl had eloped once earlier, and the parents lodged a complaint with the police. But she returned after three months, and stated that she had gone on her own and the case was withdrawn, Nagarjunasagar Hill Colony SI Hanumantha Reddy said.

Meanwhile, the accused confessed to their crime. Shankar, Lakshmi and the three brothers were booked under the sections 302, 363 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and they were taken into custody.

Earlier, a Reddy woman Swapna, 22, and her Dalit lover, Sunkara Srinivas, 32, were publicly killed on May 26 at Krishnajiwadi in Nizamabad district after they eloped, angering her community.
