Death for minor's rapist-killer, Times Of India
NAGPUR: The Nagpur district and sessions court on Wednesday awarded death sentence to Vasanta Dupare, now 47, for raping and killing a four year-old girl.
District and additional sessions judge AS Shiwankar observed, "The manner in which he perpetrated the crime was flabbergasting. There is no hope for his improvement and any compassion to him will amount to disrespect of feelings of common people and injustice to society." Dupare was found guilty of raping Muskan, daughter of Krishna and Pinki Sharma, a resident of Shiv Shakti Nagar at Wadi on April 3, 2008. Besides being convicted under Section 302 of IPC, the accused was also found guilty under
Sections 376 (2) (f) and 363. For rape and kidnapping, he was awarded life sentence along with seven years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 3,000. All sentences will run concurrently. In all, 17 witnesses were examined. Additional public prosecutor Jyoti Vajani pleaded for the prosecution with Manoj Sable.
According to her, Sharma family was a tenant in K Bansod's home and Subhash Sonawane was their neighbour.
The accused used to frequently visit Sonawane's home. On the fateful day, he lured Muskan who was playing with other kids with chocolates and took her on a bicycle. Her mother and other witnesses saw him taking the little girl. Muskan's parents later lodged a complaint naming Dupare as suspect. The police caught the culprit at 3 am next day. During interrogation, he spilled the beans and showed the area where he had committed the crime. The minor's body was found in a secluded spot at Santoshi Mata Nagar on Khadgaon road .
Two stones smeared with blood were traced and bushes where Muskan's body was dumped were also full of blood stains. Blood was oozing out from girl's mouth, nose and private parts. The clothes of the accused and his handkerchief too had blood stains. Wrappers of Minto Fresh toffees were found at the spot. The postmortem reports confirmed rape with murder.
The incident created huge furore in Wadi with citizens wanting to lynch Dupare, who is a history-sheeter with four previous offences. "Having considered the gravity and enormity of the crime, I see that the accused is a pervert, having no value for humanity and morals. He has no concern with civilisation and emotions of others. I find the case rarest of rare and therefore death penalty appropriate punishment," the judge observed.
