CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CHILD ABUSE HAS TO COME TO AN END.

Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

Tucson police shoot, kill suspect in sex-assault case

A man wanted in connection with a child sexual assault case was shot and killed in a confrontation with Tucson police downtown Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting happened outside the man’s apartment in the 400 block of South Stone Avenue near Kennedy Street.
Detectives went to the man’s apartment to arrest him on charges of sexual assault of a child and child abuse, said Sgt. Diana Lopez, a Tucson police spokesman. The case, which involves an 8-year-old female victim, had been investigated for several months.
Detectives called for assistance from patrol officers when they went to arrest the man.
Lopez said the man was yelling at police from inside his apartment. He then came out of the apartment carrying a weapon, Lopez said. She would not say what the weapon was.
The man was told several times to drop the weapon but he did not comply with the officers’ commands, she said.
The man posed a lethal threat to officers, she said. Officers then fired an unknown number of times, striking the man.
He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, she said.
The man yelled something about “suicide by cops” at the officers before the shooting, she said.
His name was not released.
Investigators are still on the scene and Stone is blocked off at Simpson and Kennedy streets because of the investigation.
This is the third fatal shooting involved Tucson police in less than three weeks.
