NEW DELHI: In yet another reminder of how illegal cartel operating out of Afghanistan and entering India through Pakistan is funding terror activities, the special cell of Delhi Police arrested a former Amritsar airport employee on Wednesday with heroin worth Rs 8 crore.
The accused, 23-year-old Sanjeev Kumar, told the police that he 'collected' his supplies of drugs from the Indo-Pak border and supplied them to his African handlers, who sent it either to southeast Asia or to the western markets.
According to sources, Kumar had been involved in the trade ever since he came out of jail in 2008 after being arrested by the Punjab Police in a murder case. The cops have recovered around 4kg heroin from the accused.
Shibesh Singh, additional DCP (special cell), said that on Wednesday inspector Satender Sangwan arrested the accused after receiving an information that a drug supplier would deliver a consignment of heroin to his counterpart near the Akshardham Temple in east Delhi.
