Indian national detained in Russia in bribe case
An Indian national has been detained in Russia's southern city of Saratov for allegedly paying bribe worth 100,000 roubles to Immigration Service employee to accelerate process of getting local citizenship.
The bribe worth USD 3,251 (100,000 roubles) was turned down by the employee, after which the Indian national was detained, the Saratov department of the Investigative Committee was quoted as saying by the Itar-Tass news agency.
The offence falls under article of the Russian Criminal Code envisaging punishment for a bribe to a person ex-officio, which entails a prison term up to three years.
The Indian citizen, who has not been identified, has been taken into custody pending trial.
Saratov is the administrative centre of Saratov Oblast and a major port on the Volga River.
