Woman shot at
NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old woman was shot at and injured by two young men as she objected to their beating up of her younger brother in Bawana here on Monday. While the victim has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries, the police have launched a hunt for the culprits.
Navita and her two younger brothers, 17-year-old Aneesh and 15-year-old Vinesh, were in the house and their parents had gone to visit a doctor when the two assailants struck around 4-30 p.m. While one of them wore a helmet, the other had his face covered with cloth.
They entered the house and started beating up Aneesh with sticks. Navita heard his screams and rushed to his rescue. The two intruders then started beating her up. Getting an opportunity, Aneesh tried to flee. The assailants went after him and were followed by Navita. She intervened, at which one of them shot at her. She sustained a bullet injury in the back. “The bullet pierced her stomach,” said a police officer.
Navita was rushed to Maharishi Balmiki Hospital from where she was later shifted to JPN Hospital.
The police have registered a case of attempted murder and recorded statements of her father, Rakesh Khatri, and other family members. Enquiries by the police revealed that Aneesh, who has gone missing after the incident, had a quarrel with two young men over some issue at Qutubgarh in Bawana a few days ago.
Suspecting their involvement, the police have launched a hunt for them.
