Sexual harassment rocks school
Johannesburg - The deputy principal of a Johannesburg school was arrested for sexually harassing six girls, of which one was a pupil at the school where his wife worked.
The 50-year-old deputy principal of Roosevelt High School was arrested on Saturday after five girls from his school opened a case of sexual assault against him at the Parkview police station, Eyewitness News reported on Wednesday.
The girl from his wife’s school opened a case at the Sophiatown police station. It was reported that the deputy principal’s wife committed suicide hours after he was arrested.
The Gauteng education department said that disciplinary action will be taken against the deputy principal.
“Because the charges against him are of such a serious nature, the department can’t allow him to return to the school, even if he is granted bail. It can endanger the safety of students,” departmental spokesperson Charles Phahlane told Beeld.
Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said the deputy principal had appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
