Rural schools in Tirupur to get facelift, R. Vimal Kumar

Tirupur: Government schools in rural areas of the district are all set to get a massive facelift as the school education department has come out with an infrastructure development package at a cost of Rs. 24.33 crore.

The project outlay had been sanctioned from the corpus created by the Central Government under ‘Rural Infrastructure Development Fund', which was being operationalised through the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.

Since want of resources had always been a problem for developing facilities in schools in the government sector, the allocation of resources from the RIDF pool would be a boon for the education sector in this district.

Chief Educational Officer T. Rajendiran told The Hindu that as part of the project, 363 additional classrooms would be constructed on the premises of 20 higher secondary and eight high schools in the suburban areas like Jallipatti, Komaralingam, Avinashi, Cheyur, Koduvai, Vadukapatti and Chettipalayam, among others. Besides this, a total of 18 science laboratories would be set up in 10 select-higher secondary and eight high schools.

“Drinking water supply to a total of 22 schools in the mofussils will be improved by constructing over head tanks and sumps on a requirement basis,” Mr. Rajendiran said.

To improve sanitation, as many as 70 units of new toilets (each having six seats) would be built in various schools.

From the total project expenditure, Rs 3.08 crore would be earmarked to built compound walls for the schools wherever it was found necessary.
