CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CHILD ABUSE HAS TO COME TO AN END.

Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

MACHILIPATNAM: A 12-year-old school-going girl who was brutally attacked by a 35-year-old person with a country knife here on Wednesday survived the bid on her life, even as the motive behind the attack remained unclear.

The girl, a student of seventh standard, was attacked by Vanka Leela Durga Prasad when she was on her way to school at Sultanagaram near here in the morning hours. The girl received an injury each on her hand and head.

According to the Taluka police, Durga Prasad has been a divorcee for the last two years and had been stalking the girl for some time now. His father was a tenant in the girl's house two years ago and the two families often had verbal duels on petty issues. According to the girl, Durga Prasad used to tell her that he would marry another girl within a short time and hand over the first wedding card to her. The local people told the police that the accused used to behave in a peculiar manner. The police arrested the accused.
