Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

'Child porn ring' busted in Sweden

Twenty-three people, including 20 women, arrested in a nationwide raid against an alleged child pornography network.



Swedish police have arrested 23 people, including 20 women, in a nationwide raid against an alleged child pornography ring.

The arrests were made at 12 different locations across Sweden on Wednesday and include women aged between 38 and 60.

Sven-Ake Petters, a police spokesman, called the raid "unique" and said he has never come across so many female suspects in a child pornography investigation before.

Police uncovered the network during the investigation of a man in Dalarna, western Sweden, who was charged last month with breaking child pornography laws.

Petters said there were no immediate clues as to why so many women appeared to be involved but that police will now investigate computers and mobile phones that were seized during the raid.
