Students allege sexual harassment by principal

SIMHACHALAM (Visakhapatnam): Students of Simhachalam Devasthanams' Sanskrit High School on Monday filed a written complaint alleging that the school principal was making sexual overtures to them. 

According to sources, a group of eight SSC girl students submitted the complaint to executive officer of the Devastanams, which runs the school, alleging that principal Ramachandra Murthy had been harassing them for the past few months. "He establishes inappropriate physical contact and indulges in lewd talks with us," the girls said in their complaint. 

The girls went on to claim that they did not inform their parents about his behaviour as they feared they would face humiliation in their villages. Prem Kumar, the EO, said an inquiry has been ordered into the matter. 

Murthy, who is retiring next year, has been working at Sanskrit High School since its inception. The school, located at Toli Pavancha on the Simhachalam hills, has a strength of 288 students. 

When contacted, Murthy denied the charges. "I have only asked them to study hard to get good results for the school," he said.
