BREMERTON -- Nine kids were hospitalized and two others could face drug charges after a pill-popping scare at Bremerton's Mountain View Middle School.
The sickened students were taken to the hospital earlier Tuesday after taking what appears to be prescription medication.
According to Bremerton police, it all started shortly after school began Tuesday morning when one student fell ill. Another showed seizure-like symptoms and told school officials that he and a group of kids had taken prescription drugs.
In all, nine children were taken to the hospital to be checked out -- one even had their stomach pumped. They were all treated and released.
Police say not all of the drugs were identified but some of the drugs were Cymbalta, which is used to treat depression. Police believe the drugs were brought to school from home.
A spokesperson for the school district says a letter was sent home with students, and phone calls were made to alert parents.
According to police, two of the nine students are responsible for bringing the drugs to school. They could be charged with delivering a controlled substance.
"I think they need to call a meeting," said parent Amy Shellman, "And I think that parents need to be there, the teachers, all the students - they need to talk to 'em. Parents need to be better educated on it apparently -- it starts with them."
The PTA vice president says a meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening at the school at 6:30, where she believes between 60-70 parents will be on hand to discuss the events that took place.
