There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

Police Seeking Two Sexual Assault Suspects

Two sexual assault suspects are being sought in separate cases in Manhattan, the police said.

The first case occurred in the early hours of Nov. 5. A 33-year-old woman met the suspect near her Thompson Street apartment building and spent several hours with him. Around 6 a.m., she decided to head home alone. But he followed her into her building and raped her in the lobby, the police said. She was treated and released from a local hospital. Footage from a surveillance camera in a nearby Duane Reade captured the suspect’s image (above).

In the second instance, which occurred at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in West Harlem, police officers responding to a burglary call found a 21-year-old woman who said she had been followed into her building by a man who claimed to have a gun. Inside her apartment, he sexually assaulted her and stole credit cards and a cellphone before fleeing, the police said. A short while later, the suspect was caught on camera using the victim’s A.T.M. card in a nearby bodega (below).

The Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the men. Anyone with information can go to nypdcrimestoppers.com or call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS, or text tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
