Indian Hypocrisy: An intent to destroy our democracy
What does India want?
India is well known for ethnic and tribal troubles and as it has witnessed foreign forces making her troubles worse. The Godhara carnage, Mujaffarnagar riots, the Bodo of Assam, separatists of Kashmir, Khalistan and Gorkha land movements are a few long standing ethnic troubles in India. Mr.Modi is promoting the agenda of development among all ethnicity in India despite being from a Hindu fundamentalist party; a clear indication of trying to become ethnically neutral. Yet India wants Nepal to address ethnic troubles in her constitution so that Nepal’s troubles get institutionalized and legalized. Why? The issue of Kashmir is yet to be settled after 60 years of independence. India calls Pakistan a terrorist sponsoring country because of Pakistan’s support for Kashmiries. But India seems to have interest in Madhesh specially in Kailali and Kanchanpur. Why? Back in 1999, when Ms. Sonia Gandhi was on the verge of becoming the prime minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, Mr. Lal krishna Aadwani and Ms. Sushma Swaraaj stand against Mrs. Gandhi, calling her foreign born national. Why do they want the foreign born citizens to have those rights in Nepal? India wants confirmed proportional representation also known as reservation to be institutionalized constitutionally in Nepal. Is India providing reservations to Biharis in Gorkha riffles, IAS, IPS, or IPL? Has India provided reservations to Tharus of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar? Does someone qualify to be in Indian cricket team just because he hails from Chhatisgadh? Is India negotiating with Hardik Patel to provide reservations sought? The ruling party BJP of India has been accused by others as anti-reservation party in India in recent Bihar elections. Why does India want reservation for Madhesis in Nepal?
What are the facts?
There is poverty in Madhesh, but there is more poverty in Pahad. There is better transportation system in Madhesh than that of Pahad. The supply of electricity, accessibility to hospitals and schools is better in Madhesh than in Pahad. The land of Madhesh is cultivable, Pahad is not. A list of top rich people includes the most from Madhesh itself. Even our president and vice presidents are from Madhesh. People from Pahad go to Madhesh in search of jobs and opportunity and some even go to India and are called Bahadur there. The Bahadurs even have Gorkha riffles, a regiment of army in India. Even a common Nepalese is given an insulting name of “Bahadur” in cities of India. India is well known about all these facts. India knows that the Brahmin- Kshatriya are all over the middle-east working in desert, they are laborers in Malaysia, Singapore, Korea, Iraq, and they are in Indian army too. A plenty of them are taking watchmen and peons job in the city of Mumbai and Delhi where they go by the humiliating and infamous name of Bahadur. India knows that Bahadurs don’t enjoy political powers in Nepal. The slogan of Modi’s development and governance agenda in India attracted many likeminded people in Nepal. Mr. Modi’s win in recent Lok Sabha elections has made Indian democracy even stronger because a dynast rule or the culture of family politics was defeated in Indian politics. Nepal’s leaders who approached Delhi are the ones who have been in politics and powers for a long time and they were defeated recently. They want to keep their dynasty alive by having India on using some of our own to fight us.
What does Mr. Oli need to do?
Indian motives are unclear, but they are dangerous. Why is India asking us to solve the problems that they haven’t solved in years? Simply because we are asking them to intervene, we are asking for troubles. Our leaders have never informed us about the dialogues that have happened between the two countries. Indian embassy’s role in creating a forum for meeting between our dissident leaders and the government is not a favor to us, it’s a curse; it’s intervention, it’s an open invitation to troubles. India has nothing to do with Madhesh and Madhesis. In fact all North Indian are insulted and ill- reated in big cities in India. How Bihari’s were chased away from Mumbai a few years ago? India is not siding with Madhesi’s, India is using them. It is important for Mr. Oli to reach Madhesh, take Madhesis in confidence and make sure that India is simply using them. Madhesi people need to be assured of equal rights and any kind of discrimination against them in intolerable. Mr. Oli needs to send a clear message to an international community that a democratic constitution makes democracy stronger; it’s not a threat to its neighbors. An update to our donors and other international community about the greater humanitarian crisis Nepal is facing is already overdue. Mr. Oli should be extremely careful about Lhenudp Dorjee in Nepal. The law and order needs to be maintained, anyone speaking against the nation and its integrity should not be spared. The people of Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhatisgadh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram etc. are ill-treated in many places of India, yet India seems to be hypocritical about Madhesh. If someone questions our democracy and constitution, Mr. Oli needs to tell them “shut up, that none of your business”, we are a sovereign nation. Nepal has always been inclined towards its southern neighbor; the time has come to explore greater opportunities of business with China. Modi’s visit to Nepal saw Modi as a hero because it was a political level visit to Nepal. Nepal has not been able to keep up with the talks at political level; rather it has been engaged with old fashioned engagements with Indian bureaucratic system. Mr. Oli has to come out of this bureaucratic level communication with India, otherwise Indian interventions will not let us live peacefully; it will destroy our social harmony and democracy. And of course, our prime minister needs to be surrounded by educated experts before he does anything else.
