UAE, Bangladesh close child jockeys dossier
DHAKA — The dossier of compensating Bangladeshi children who had participated in the past as camel jockeys in racing events in the UAE has been officially closed, it was announced by senior state officials in Bangladesh.
A delegation from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) paid a visit to Bangladesh on Sunday to follow up a programme to compensate the former camel jockeys as per the directives of Lt-General Shaikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. Major General Nasser Al Awadhi Al Menhali, Assistant Undersecretary, Naturalization and Residency and Chairman of the Committee for follow-up on the compensation programme headed the delegation. During the visit, the delegation held meetings with senior officials at the Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs who praised the efforts of the UAE to compensate the Bangladeshi children for their rehabilitation and reintegration to the community life.
The damages have successfully been distributed among 879 former child jockeys, they assured. The meeting was attended by Undersecretary at the Bangladesh Home Ministry Abdus Subhan and Ghazi Abdullah Ashour Minister Plenipotentiary and Charge d’affaires of UAE Embassy in Dhaka. In an announcement, Abdus Subhan asserted the dossier of compensating former Bangladeshi camel jockeys has been officially closed. —
