Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

Pastor dupes villagers promising loans, lands in jail 

VILLUPURAM: Police arrested a pastor on charges of duping several villagers of their savings totalling about Rs 40,000 after promising them interest free loans from foreign funding agencies. Police said M Isaac Daniel, a pastor in a church in Perani village near Tindivanam, has been collecting Rs 2,500 and Rs 1,250 from villagers promising them interest free loans of Rs 1 lakh and Rs 50,000 respectively. However, after collecting money from the villagers he failed to arrange loans for them. He evaded repeated pleas from the villagers to refund their money. Furious with the pastor for duping them, they assaulted him when he visited Tindivanam. They took him to Brammadesam police station and lodged a complaint against him. Police registered a case and produced him before a local court that remanded him to judicial custody.
