CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CHILD ABUSE HAS TO COME TO AN END.

Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

Mumbai man ‘sells’ wife to Bengaluru bar

Mumbai man ‘sells’ wife to Bengaluru bar

It was a case of love gone horribly wrong for a 23-year-old bank executive when her dreams were shattered just four months after her marriage. Her husband, who has been arrested, tried selling her to a dance bar in Bangaluru through a pimp.

According to the police, Suvarna Rai (name changed to protect identity), who worked with a private bank, fell in love with Anil Karkera, 24, one of her colleagues. The duo got married after a two-year courtship.

“I married him in spite of my family opposing our union,” said Rai, who is now four months pregnant, in her statement to the police.

The victim claims that cracks started developing in their relationship in May, when Anil asked her to quit the bank job and move to Bengaluru. Initially, Rai resisted the idea but later gave in. “I did not like the idea of shifting to another city and changing my profession. But then I decided to sacrifice my career for my husband,” she reportedly told the police.

But what followed had left Rai aghast. She alleged that her husband late sent her to Bengaluru with a man who took her to a dance bar and forced her to work there as a dancer.

She said that she went into depression during her stay there. However, she managed to escape and come back to Mumbai after 10 days.
