CHILD TRAFFICKING AND CHILD ABUSE HAS TO COME TO AN END.

Trafficking in children is a global problem affecting large numbers of children. Some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children being trafficked every year. There is a demand for trafficked children as cheap labour or for sexual exploitation. Children and their families are often unaware of the dangers of trafficking, believing that better employment and lives lie in other countries.

KSWDC to give fresh impetus to women empowerment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Women’s Development Corporation (KSWDC) is planning to give a fresh impetus to women empowerment programmes  being implemented in the state.
The corporation will create an online gender research centre to provide round-the -clock social community service.  KSWDC will also tie up with Tally India Private Limited to provide training in Tally for 1250 girls in the BPL category.
The corporation had entered into an agreement  with NIIT to provide interest-free loans to candidates selected for various courses.  For providing proper guidance to adolescent girls on gender issues,  KSWDC is planning to distribute VCDs in rural schools of the state.
Post-production works for the videos are going on.  The corporation has been running seven working women’s hostels in  various districts aimed at providing safe accommodation for students.
The corporation had so far constructed eight comfort stations-cum-resting rooms in the state.
Focusing on the career aspirations of women,  a Resource Enhancement Academy for Career Heights (REACH) has been formed at an initiative of KSWDC.
Under this programme, courses are offered free of cost to the students of the BPL category. The career programme comes under the KSWDC’s Flagship Programme for Finishing School.
