Kids waiting for "forever families"
20% success rate of placement at adoption parties

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Wednesday night families thinking about adoption got a better idea of the process first hand.
Ben Roman lives in Agawam now. He explains how he found his family. “I came to this family two years ago and it's been a great experience for me. Having people care for you, it's a great feeling.”
Ben is 17 years old and goes to Agawam High School. He met his family through an adoption party.
His “forever family” father, Charles Fink says, “We have been learning how to be a family since then, and it is fun it is interesting.”
This time hopeful families met with social workers to find out more about the adoption process.
The Department of Children and Families tells us that at any given time in Western Massachusetts 80 to 100 kids are looking for a "forever home."
The adoption parties prove to be a big success.
Jaime Caron, the supervisor for the Adoption Development Unit says, “20 percent of the kids who attend an adoption party meet their forever family as a result of that party.”
Sarah and Eric hope to find someone they can call family as well.
Sarah Aasheim and is from Belchertown. She says, “You learn about children who may be a good fit for your family for whom you could provide a nice home.”
The adoption party is open to the public and will have carnival activities and arts and crafts.
